Friday, October 1       CANCELED

AIA WMR 2021 DINING BY DESIGN - $70

Space Limited to 40 Guests

Host:                 Studio Southwest Architects

Location:          Explora! Science Center

1701 Mountain Rd NW, Albuquerque NM 87104

Time: 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm

The place is Explora. The tour is X-Studio. Don’t miss your opportunity to see a project under construction at New Mexico’s premier children’s museum and science center with Studio Southwest Architects and New Mexico’s favorite non-profit organization for building women up in the AEC industry, Women in Design New Mexico.

The event begins with a private tour of X-Studio a new 8,000 square foot STEAM education and workforce development center that furthers Explora's Next Great Minds initiative. This new facility will provide space for physics, chemistry, robotics, design, film, and coding programs. The envelope is developed from the language of the existing building but reformed as though in mid-transformation to its next step in evolution. This movement offers an opportunity to expose systems within the building and provide opportunities to use the building itself as a tool for STEAM learning.

Then have your fill of Spanish Tapas and imbibe with new friends made throughout the evening.

Your ticket is also your entry into a few rounds of Architrivia led by our co-hosts Women in Design New Mexico. So, look no further, because you have plans Friday night!

Mark Baker will share his experience specifically related to place-making and architect-as-developer in the redevelopment of the 505 Central (Historic Sears Building) in Downtown Albuquerque. Originally built in 1937 and designed by the renowned Architect John Gaw Meem and his lead engineer Hugo Zehner, the handsome masonry building is a perfect example of streamlined modernism. In 2015 Mark purchased the building and began the complex task of bringing the vacant building back to life. 34 loft apartments, the offices of Baker Architecture + Design, the popular Humble Coffee Co., and the 505 Central Food Hall, now occupy the over 50,000 square foot structure.

DxD participants will be given 3 tickets for their choice of appetizer, entrée and beverages items from the following 505 vendors: Wild Rosemary, Meateor Burgers, Moonwalk Bev, Tino's Tacos, Pier None, Thicc Pizza Co., Humble Coffee, Cosmic Confections.
